Extremity MRI Center

Patients are often frightened by the immensity, sense of confinement and noise associated with the standard whole-body magnet.  The Extremity MRI is more comfortable for the patient because only the body part that needs to be imaged is placed inside the magnet.  The Extremity MRI experience reduces the sense of confinement and eliminates the immensity and noise of a whole body magnet.

The Extremity MRI Center at Emory-Adventist Hospital at Smyrna features Atlanta's first high-field 1.0 Tesla Extremity MRI System.  The extremity MRI offers multiple advantages in comparison to the conventional full body MRI system:

  • eliminates feelings of claustrophobia and the need for sedation
  • parents can stay with their child during the scan
  • quieter than standard MRI's
  • quick and easy patient positioning and technique flexibility
  • faster scan times as compared to whole body MRI units

The Extremity MRI Center offers same day appointments as well as Sunday appointments.  Readings are done by board certified radiologists and reports are available within 24-48 hours.
